This iMac would not have a regular internet or network connection and would not be used to surf the web. I am configuring an old iMac to use as a standalone, off network, music workstation with an old version of GarageBand. Power it on, and hold Command (Apple Button) + S at the same time. This guide works for all apple computers including but not limited to MacBook, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac Mini, Mac Pro, and MacBook Air. I hope this question is not out of the scope of this sub. If you have lost a password to an OS X user account on your Apple Macintosh, this will help you reset it. In other words, will putting a 10.6.8 machine on my network make the network vulnerable if I am only connecting to Apple update servers? My assumption is that any Apple server updates would be encrypted, but can a deprecated OS vulnerability break that security in some way and set up my networks or that machine for attacks? Obviously, a wired ethernet connection would be more secure than wireless, but would even a wired connection be vulnerable? and voila a new root password If you don’t know what to do with the root user, then you probably shouldn’t be attempting to change the password. #MAC CHANGE PASSWORD 10.6.8 MAC OS#TLDR In building an initial set up, using a deprecated Mac OS (10.6.8), is it OK to allow a Mac to connect to Apple Servers for updates? If you desire to change the root password on the mac, you just open up terminal in your logged in account and type: sudo passwd root (enter) this will prompt you to enter a new password for root 2x. ![]()
